Sridevi's Kaate Nahin references

Nora Fatehi and Surveen Chawla in Jhalak Dikhla Ja 9. This was one of its kind and uniquely thought. A dance war between Sridevi and Madhuri is impossible in real life but it did come partially true on the stage of Jhalak with Nora performing on Sridevi's I love you and Surveen Chawla dancing on Madhuri's 'Ek Do Teen'. Judge Karan Johar called it as his favourite performance of the day.

In Sachin Kundalkar’s film Aiyyaa (2012), Rani Mukerji plays Meenakshi, whose head is stuffed with Hindi film songs and fantasies about The One. she is throwing her body about a fireplace like Sridevi in Kaate Nahin Kat Te. Meenakshi is wearing the same blue sari, but has an important extra accessory – outsized Jeetendra-white goggles.

Ali Abbas Zafar’s Gunday (2014), starring Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, has a meta-take on the song. A sequence in the crime drama braids together a tribute to the enduring impact of Kaate Nahin Kat Te and Sridevi’s ability to haunt audiences, and Bollywood’s ability to reference itself in clever ways. As the men wait for Nandita, Kaate Nahin Kat Te gets underway (it must have been a very long wait, since the song appears towards the end of Mr India). Suddenly, Nandita appears on the stage in front of the screen. She is in a similar blue sari, and for a moment, her image merges with Sridevi’s. An appreciative remark by a bystander sets Bala off, and a brawl ensues. A gun goes off, and Bala’s victim is hurled through the screen, tearing it into half.

In the first look promos for 'Jhalak Dikhala Jaa 5', Madhuri will be seen giving her tribute to the divas of yesteryears, For the promo shoot, Madhuri dons a yellow chiffon saree to bring back those feverish, sensuous memories of Sridevi driving the country wild in the 80s with her expression of pent up desire in the phenomenally popular song, 'Kaate Nahee Kate'.

Actress Sayantani Ghosh, who played Paulomi in "Santoshi Maa", is seen in a new avatar in the popular show inspired by Sridevi.

In the show, Sayantani is seen as a goddess, whose misdeeds have landed her on earth amongst lesser mortals. While on earth, people believe that she belongs to a theatre company and start making fun of her.

While trying to adapt on earth, she comes across Sridevi's movies and gets mesmerised by her looks.

"It is a welcome change for me as I have been in the same costume since the show has gone on air. People on earth have lot of options to style themselves, unlike a goddess.

"I am a huge fan of Sridevi and I am glad that my mortal look will be inspired by her I will be donning the short hair look along with sarees. I am very happy with my new look."

Ankita Lokhande has donned a blue saree reminiscent of what Sridevi had worn in the iconic song, Kate Nahin Kat Te, from Mr. India, and the way she holds herself, coupled with how her pallu flies in the wind harks back to those visuals of the legend.

Kahaan Hum Kahaan Tum: Dipika Kakar goes the Sridevi way & recreates the iconic number. Rohit tells Sonakshi that sarees are very boring and give behenji type vibes. It is here, when she tries to convince him that they are extremely glamorous and elegant. Sonakshi tells Rohit to imagine late Sridevi's and Sushmita Sen’s looks from Mr India and Main Hoon Na, where they are wearing sarees and raising the temperatures.
