Kanchu Kagada (Box-office)

Kanchu Kagada was the first movie that caused 144 section to be established to control the crowds. It was also the first movie to release in 100+ theatres in Slab System. First film to get 5 screenings in twin cities on its first day in four theatres at Hyderabad: Kishore (Main theatre), Konark 70MM in Dilshuknagar, Sha in HMT Road, Geeta in Ramachandrapuram.

Kanchu Kagada's first week gross was 82 lakhs INR. It had 35 screenings at Raj 70mm theatre in Vijayawada in its first week.

Kanchu Kagada crossed Challenge movie's week town record by collecting 1,35,472 INR from theatres Priya Deluxe & Lakshmi Deluxe in Tenali on 28th September, 1984.

Kanchu Kagada is the first movie in Tollywood history to collect 75.80 lakhs INR making it one of the biggest opening weeks in South India.

October 7th, 1984 happens to be 10th day at the box-office for Kanchu Kagada and as per the below scan, it was having regular shows at 4 theatres: Rajeswari, SriRama, Mahalakshmi & Mohini in Visakhapatnam.

The film had 28 screenings in its second week. This was a State Record for A/C theatres then. All 63 shows running with full crowds was the icing in the cake. There were bigger hits than this in the year 1984 but the hype surrounding Kanchu Kagada was so much that the film was screened in 9 extra theatres (113) on the first day. Mini-Cut outs were kept at every important centre in Nellore. People hired to place the huge cutout at Nartaki 70mm A/C theatre could not complete the job on time as it was pouring heavily on the night before the release day. The cut out was so big that the torso itself crossed the theatre's elevation. Since I already shared the collection details of this film's collections in centres like Vijayawada, Nellore, Guntur, I want to share a scan which has details of its openings in Vijayalakshmi A/C, Bhimavaram. Kanchu Kagada crossed the first week collections of Merupudhaadi and (created a District Record of course with more no of shows). The movie ended up in the safe zone everywhere due to the phenomenal openings.

The film collected 2,98,157 INR during its first 14 days at Raj 70mm theatre in Vijayawada. Paper advert of first two weeks record in Nellore.

Ran for 35 days at Rajeshwari theatre in Vizag.

Ran for 50 days in 44 centres and Direct in Movieland cinema, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Ran for 100 days (shift) in 31 centres.
