Hit Pairs of Telugu Cinema – Sridevi & Jayaprada: Sridevi and Jayaprada are to Indian Cinema what Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova were to Women’s Tennis in 80s. These arch rivals are one of the hit fairs as they acted together in several blockbusters like Devatha (1982), Krishnarjunulu (1982), Adavi Simhalu (1983), Mundhadugu (1983),  Mawaali (1983), Tohfa (1984), Maqsad (1984), Naya Kadam (1984),  Aakhree Raasta (1986), Aulad (1987), Majaal (1987), Main Tera Dushman (1989).

Despite getting a super-hit talk right from the word go, Devatha could not match the collections of another Sridevi’s hit-film Bangaru Bhoomi in its first week in some centres. First week collections at theatres: Sangeet - INR 67,733.70; Rama - INR 59,812.80; Geet - INR 5,737.80 (3 days noon shows). 1st week gross - INR 1,33,284.30

Suresh Productions' Devatha, one of the big hits of the year, was released in 6 theatres: Basanth, Anjali, Shyam, Konark, Sridevi & Shobana and was screened in 5 theatres on 17/09/1982, which happens to be its 8th day. It was screened in 3 theatres: Basanth, Anjali and Shyam till 19/09/1982 and the musical hit was confined to two theatres for the rest of its second week.

As per the scan below, Devatha got 59 screenings within its 14 days and collected INR 1,61,754 at Alankar A/C theatre in Vijayawada, suspected to be a dubious claim because Chuttalunnaru Jagratha collected approximately INR 1,62,000 in 2 weeks from 61 screenings in the same theatre two years before. Both are Sridevi's movies.

Though Suresh Productions Devatha was houseful for 29 days at GopalaKrishna theatre, it could not cross the 50 days collections of another Sridevi's movie Justice Chowdhary, which collected INR 3,25,000.

Ran for 50 days at;

2. 22 Centers (Direct) in total.

Ran for 52 days at fulls. Total closing gross was INR 9 lakhs.

Ran for 100 days in;

1. Uttarandhra at 1 centre,
2. 7 centres (Total),
3. 8 centres (Direct),
4. including Tirupati for 98 days.

Ran for 113 days at Sangeetha theatre in Vizag. Closing gross was INR 7 lakhs.
